Tranquility Trek
A Carnegie Mellon team, under the banner of Astrobotic Technology, is developing a lunar rover enterprise in pursuit of the $20M Google Lunar X PRIZE
Red Rover will land in the Sea of Tranquility and travel to the Apollo 11 landing site. The rover will broadcast high definition video and imagery of its trek as well as artifacts from humankind's first steps on the moon 40 years ago. As the first privately funded space robot to traverse the moon, Red Rover will usher in a new era of lunar exploration.
Students from across all disciplines are encouraged to join the team by participating in the Spring 2009 offering of Advanced Mobile Robot Design (16-865) or through independent study. The course meets 3:00 to 4:20pm Tues/Thurs in Newell Simon Room 3002.
